
Pregnancy massage
Pregnancy massage uses gentle Swedish massage techniques to improve the function of the body of expectant mothers, to reduce discomfort and lower stress. As a women’s body and mind changes during pregnancy, she may notice new aches and pains or emotional imbalances appearing and disappearing. The session will take these into consideration and will be shaped based on your needs.
As the body shape changes during pregnancy, special care will be taken to position the client safely and comfortably on the massage table. I will use props such as bolsters and pillows to provide the most comfortable position possible to the client.
Pregnancy massage can help tone the body, increase blood flow and improve lymph circulation. It can also improve the function of joints and muscles, provide an overall sense of wellbeing, help with hormone regulation, improve sleep and alleviate physical and mental fatigue.
This type of body work is not performed during the first trimester due to concerns that it may induce miscarriage in very early pregnancy. It is however safe to receive after the 12 weeks mark as long as you have an easy pregnancy without complications.
If there are complications to the pregnancy, you will be asked to get approval from your medical professional to receive massage therapy.
